Since we only work in the best interest of our animals, there are conditions that potential adopters need to fulfill. We present, in brief outline, the Adoption conditions which have been in force for long. We ask all potential adopters to consider if they meet the requirements.
Dog adoption conditions:
- Dogs are adopted into a flat or house with a well fenced yard in case the dog would stay outside the house.
- No chains, kennels etc.!
- Access to the house for the dog is obligatory.
- If the dog has not been neutered yet, it is the new owner’s obligation. In this case, the Association provides several veterinary clinics to choose from to neuter the dog at a favourable price.
- Consent of every household member to adopt the dog is obligatory.
- The care of the dog in accordance with the Animal Protection Act is obligatory.
- Veterinary care must be provided when needed.
- Volunteer’s visit before the adoption is required.
- You have to sign the Adoption agreement.
- Landlord permission for the adoption is obligatory.
- In some cases, if it is emphasised in an advertisement, exception to the requirement of the access to the house is possible.
- If two dogs are adopted, they may be adopted without the access to the house only if a warm place for sleep is provided.
- Adoption is possible in the surrounding districts of Zaprešić and Zagreb. It is also possible in other areas if a volunteer of Šapica Association or any sister association is able to meet and visit the adopter.
Cat adoption conditions:
- Cats are adopted into a flat or house which is away from a major road.
- The windows and balconies in the flat have to be secured with a safety net preventing the cat from jumping off.
- It is obligatory to have a cat scratcher or a cat tree in a flat (recommended in a house with the access to the yard as well).
- If the cat has not been neutered yet, it is the new owner’s obligation. In this case, the Association provides several veterinary clinics to choose from to neuter the cat at a favourable price.
- Consent of every household member to adopt the cat is obligatory.
- The care of the cat in accordance with the Animal Protection Act is required.
- Veterinary care must be provided when needed.
- Volunteer’s visit before the adoption is obligatory.
- You have to sign the Adoption agreement.
- Landlord permission for the adoption is obligatory.
- General care of the cat (food etc.) has to be secured – cats must not be adopted for mice hunting!

Note: These are the general Adoption conditions of the animals in Šapica Association. Some animals may be adopted only under certain circumstances (some dogs/cats cannot live in a flat/city or stay outside in the yard).
